A Guide to Staying Mindful over the Next 4 Years

surviving donald trump years

Many people not just here in the U.S., but all around the world are asking how they are going to make it through the next four years. We’ve never seen a man like Donald Trump take office in one of the world’s most powerful positions. Some people are thrilled while others are in despair. Another group is using their own power and voices to become activists.

The Dali Lama of Tibet says that our “surrounding situation should not be the end to all happiness.” I’ve personally thought about this and reflected on that very notion. Why would I allow my world to become unhappy? What if instead I focused on the positive movements that I can do myself. Taking action for yourself will not just make you happy, but you will have a positive effect on everything around you. It will show up in your career, relationships and everyday interactions with people.

Here are a few things that you can do to put yourself into a more mindful state…

Do a Kindness Challenge

Never underestimate the power of kindness. It makes all the difference in the world on how we connect and see each other. Think of small things that you can do during the course of your week for others or our planet. Whether it is holding the door open for someone, lending a hand to a neighbor, or planting a tree, you are starting a chain of love and kindness. The more you do, the better you will feel internally. And you never know when you are inspiring others to do the same cool deeds.

Surround Yourself with Good People

Have you ever noticed that when you are in a room full of people that are energized, you leave feeling the same way? The same goes if you are hanging out with the negative nellies. When you are around people that seek peace and compassion, it is good for your health. It helps you to evolve into a higher being of love and generosity.

Serve Others

When you take the time to truly help others, you are serving them. The more you serve people, the more happiness and self-confidence you will acquire. Humanity itself thrives and transformation takes place internally.

Give more compassion to yourself

This means judging and criticising yourself less. When you are honest and truthful with yourself this will always lead to happiness and inner peace.

Give Your Mind a Break

Our minds are on a constant go with thoughts and emotions. Even though we can’t stop thinking and having emotions, we can meditate to give our “monkey minds” something else to work on.  Meditation can be done in a matter of a few breaths. Inhale, exhale. Focus on your breath. This will give your mind something else to focus on and to let go of any anxiety you may be experiencing. You can gain clarity and grounding once again.

Be Inspired

It is always a good thing to be inspiring to other people, but a bigger impact is being inspired yourself. When you are inspired, you are empowered to take charge and lead the way to greatness. Inspiration is what gets us up in the morning, excited to take an idea and put it into action. Inspiration drives us to do good for the whole world, not just ourselves. Inspiration is what takes us from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

I promise you that we will get through this tough situation. We as a people can rise together with love and compassion and make tremendous miracles happen to our world.
