If you haven’t already heard, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla are welcoming their daughter into the world with an epic amount of love. Together, they are forming their foundation aimed at making the world a better place. They are giving away 99 percent of their shares of Facebook over their lifetime and putting it towards what they describe as a project for human potential and equality. I would say that is one heck of a way to introduce baby Max.
When I first read the headline about the couple setting forth on this journey, I could only wonder why more business leaders aren’t doing the same thing. Are they scared, greedy, what is it? There are few visionaries that we get to experience first-hand in our short lifetimes. The true thought leaders of our world aren’t hording their wealth, but doing what is right for people and the planet.
The names I hear on an almost daily basis are Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Sir Richard Branson. They are killing it on a scale that most people can’t really fathom. Bill and Melinda Gates with their foundation have made huge contributions in the way of stamping out polio globally. They have all made incredible impacts on our daily lives and the foreseeable future and continue to do so. Mark Zuckerberg and Pricilla Chan are now running in the same league with these guys. They are going to make sure that they leave a legacy not only for their daughter to be proud of, but for the good of the world.
It is time for other leaders of big business to open their minds and lead with passion. When you give back on a large social scale to the world, it can only open the door for bigger profits for your company. Too many CEO’s of major corporations today are seen more as villains than heroes. Perhaps it is because the average citizen sees the hefty salaries these guys are making and then are running their companies into the ground, only to be saved with a golden parachute. People need heroes and business leaders from around the globe are in the perfect position to make that happen.
Thinking big and taking action with no fear is what drives the world’s biggest innovations. Our world needs these people to step up to the plate and hit it out of the park.
Who are the business leaders in your local community thinking big and taking action?
