Tampa Bay Watch is recruiting volunteers for a land and sea based cleanup of the Sunshine Skyway on Saturday, March 21, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own kayak or canoe to participate in the water based cleanup.
Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest annual community improvement program that harnesses the power of over 4 million volunteers to build vibrant communities. The event takes place annually from March 1 through May 31. Tampa Bay Watch sees the Cleanup as an important way to help clean up human-generated trash as well as marine debris that floats onto the shorelines from Tampa Bay and Gulf of Mexico, also protecting wildlife from unnecessary injury or death. Since 2001, with the help of 4,838 volunteers, more than 50,000 pounds of debris have been collected including items like Styrofoam cups, construction debris, car batteries and countless cigarette butts, party balloons and plastic bags.
Meeting location will be Blackthorn Memorial Park located on the North Pier of the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park.
