SharkCon is an event that brings those who love the ocean together for a weekend of education and the fun of a Comic Con. SharkCon has something for everyone who loves the ocean.
We have speakers from Discovery Channel, National Geographic, world renown artists, best selling authors and scientists and conservationists who will give presentations that entertain and enlighten our guest to the wonders and plights of the ocean. We had water sports clinics to teach our attendees how to paddle board, kayak, surf and fish. The show had over 80 vendors from different areas of ocean fun (scuba, live aboards, charters, clothing, fishing, books, jewelry, fossils, paddle boards, vacation destinations, and much more). Want to learn how to set up a saltwater fish tank? Come to our demonstration.
We have exhibits from the Florida Aquarium (animals, fossils, educational material), Mote Marine Laboratory Mobile exhibit, Fish and Wildlife, SeaWorld (fossils, examples, learning materials, shark photo options, more), Sharks from Ocean Creations, a shark ride(like the bucking horse), children’s coloring tables, shark tooth sand dig, ocean themed bounce house, the Mascot from the Clearwater Threshers, Aquaman, a showing of Jaws at the Tampa Theater, and even more. We want all of our guests leaving after having been entertained, educated, and with a renewed passion to protect our oceans.
The goal behind SharkCon is to raise awareness for ocean conservation by bringing in the general public and ocean enthusiast together to inspire a love of the ocean with general public through interactions with experts and exhibits and enthusiasts. For enthusiast, it will be an annual experience where they can celebrate their love of the ocean in a fun environment and a chance for them to hear their hero’s speak. We want both groups to then go forth and make a positive change for the health of our oceans. Through this we hope to raise money for the conservation efforts of our partners. We know this two pronged approach can ensure the health of the oceans for generations for those of us who love and want to protect them.
Shark-Con, an event dedicated to raising awareness about shark and ocean conservation, will take place at the Florida Fair Grounds, Tampa this July.
Tickets can be purchased for $14.95 for a single day adult pass, $29.90 for a two-day adult pass, $4.95 for a one-day child pass or $9.90 for a two-day child pass. Proceeds will benefit three main recipients: The Florida Aquarium rehabilitation programs, Mote Marine Laboratory’s shark research and Shark related conservation projects.
For more information on Shark-Con, including a complete list of activities, or to purchase tickets, visit www.shark-con.com or visit the Shark-Con Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sharkcon.
The event will be held at the Florida Fair Grounds, Tampa. It will be held Saturday July 11th, 2015 from 9am-6pm & Sunday July 12th, 2015 from 10am-5pm, 2014. The idea behind Shark-Con is to bring all types and backgrounds of people (researchers, conservationists, boaters, scuba divers) together to share ideas, have a fun experience, learn, and come together to help the ocean. Sometimes people with different interests may disagree about how to approach the ocean and its needs, however, all of these people love the oceans and should learn to work together to make a difference.
We look forward to entertaining, educating, and raising money for Shark / Ocean conservation. We promise everyone/group that is involved with Shark-Con will benefit from their participation.
