We are helping Clearwater, Florida recruit 200 volunteers to participate in a dune restoration project April 18 on Clearwater Beach.
A variety of more than 5,000 sea oats, cucumber leaf dune sunflowers, bitter panic grass and Indian Blanket Flowers will be planted to stabilize the large dune. Dunes are an important part of beach ecology, providing habitat, sand stabilization, and initial protection from storm surges. By planting these plants, we are increasing the native biodiversity and enhancing a beautiful feature on our spectacular beach.
Register at: www.myclearwater.com/parksvolunteer – PLEASE PICK “OTHER” WHEN ASKED HOW YOU HEARD ABOUT IT AND PUT “SIERRA CLUB” IN THE COMMENTS! THANKS – SEE YOU ON THE BEACH.
Volunteers will meet at 8AM – 1PM on Clearwater Beach between Frenchy’s Restaurant and the Palm Pavilion.
All water, supplies and lunch will be provided.
Volunteers should begin hydrating days in advance and wear cool, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes the day of the event.
