The Woods initiative is dedicated to reconnecting people with nature. Since 2017, our mission has been to develop a sustainable cycle for growing our main crops—pepper, cinnamon, coffee, and vanilla—while restoring a disturbed forest into a thriving eco-reserve. They aim to create a self-sufficient tourism development by applying Permaculture principles, utilizing creative and cross-disciplinary solutions for waste management, water conservation, and sustainable buildings. The Woods is currently in the initial stages of land observation and learning about the local ecology to design structures that allow them to live off the land while preserving and enhancing wildlife, native plants, and other species. As pioneers in Permaculture and Agroforestry, they serve as a Training and Demonstration Center in Sri Lanka and host the Permaculture Sri Lanka Network.
