Two family-friendly events focusing on the fun of learning science will take place this weekend in downtown St. Petersburg along the Bayboro waterfront.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute will  present the 20th annual MarineQuest Open House on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Next door, on the campus of the University of St. Petersburg and Poynter Park, the fourth annual St. Petersburg Science Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both events are free!

MarineQuest will have more than 60 exhibits from FWRI and other government agencies and conservation groups.Visitors can experience up-close encounters with live fish and wildlife and children’s activities will be ongoing throughout the day.

Be sure to look for the Tampa Bay Estuary Program tent where we’ll be handing out free giveaways for kids, as well as information to help homeowners and boaters protect Tampa Bay!

St. Pete Science Fest will feature more than 90 hands-on interactive exhibits, games and activities. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday with a round of Science Jeopardy in Poynter Park with community leaders. The first 300 attendees will receive Science Festival swag!

Free event parking is available at the USF parking garage at the corner of 5th Avenue S. and 3rd Street S. For more information about MarineQuest 2014, visit MyFWC.com/MarineQuest
