THE SECONDA ANNUAL FLORIDA LOQUAT FESTIVAL:
CELEBRATING FLORIDA’S URBAN FRUIT

Ecology Florida, Friendship Farms & Fare, and the Market Off Main will host the second annual Florida Loquat Festival on Saturday, Apr. 4 from 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Market Off Main (6241 Lincoln St., 34652) in New Port Richey.

The festival will be a  learning and sharing event to expand knowledge and appreciation of the loquat tree and its fruit. There will be presentations on the cultivation of loquat trees, how to eat its fruit, canning, and recipes using loquats. Also featured will be tasting samples, and a talk on the cultural context of this often overlooked Florida fruit-bearing tree. This year, the festival includes a new event: an open mic literary session, featuring short creative literary works on and about loquats.

All readers are welcome. Official readings begin at 1 p.m., and will be limited to the first 20 readers who sign up at the festival.  Readings are to be kept under two minutes (about 300 words). Overflow readings are possible, after 2 p.m. To sign in, contact Wendy Buffington when you arrive at the site of the event. With authors’ permission, readings may be included in future publications of Loquat News.

Trees will be available for sale from licensed Florida nurseries along with fruit, jellies jams, and homemade pies.
