Every season Sweetwater offers farm and education internships to both formal students and those interested in expanding their own personal knowledge. Farm Interns work with our farm crew to complete essential daily tasks such as seeding, planting, weeding, greenhouse maintenance, and harvesting. Education Interns work with the Ed. Program Manager leading field trips with groups of school children and assist in the maintenance of the education gardens. Throughout the duration of the internship, interns have the opportunity to participate in the basics of growing food.
Full season interns (September/October-May) are given preference with a minimum of a semester equivalence required to participate in the program. Interns work 8 hours a week, either one day a week or two four-hour days. Education Interns must be available at least two M-F mornings per week for field trips. Internships are unpaid and receive a Full CSA vegetable share each week when hours are completed.
Those interested in becoming an intern are encouraged to come out to our Internship Open House & Orientation. During our open house, prospective interns will receive a short tour of our farm, be introduced to general farm tasks, and join a Q&A with our Farm Managers, Travis and Jenise, and our Education Program Manager, Caroline. A full farm tour will be held prior to the open house from 10:30-11:30.
Contact us for more information and to RSVP. If you cannot attend this open house, please contact us so we can arrange a different day for you to come out to the farm.

Sweetwater Farm

Sweetwater Organic Community Farm was established in 1995 as a nonprofit community-supported urban organic farm and environmental education center in Tampa, Florida. We are located on 6 acres of suburban property along the Sweetwater Creek in Tampa’s Town ‘n’ Country neighborhood, in Hillsborough County, Florida. We operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Membership program, Sweetwater Sunday Farmers’ Market and Music Series open to the public, educational field trip programs for visiting groups, farm tours, workshops, outdoor movies, seasonal events, volunteer opportunities and more! Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all ages discover the wonders of nature, explore ecological interconnections, practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques. Our farm provides the freshest possible organic vegetables and herbs for hundreds of Tampa Bay residents each year. At Sweetwater, community members come together to grow and enjoy fresh organic food, acquire sustainable living skills, support local agriculture, enjoy nature, make new friends and be a part of the community.
