For a free, fun-filled day of ocean commotion for all ages don’t miss the North Shore Ocean Fest!

The North Shore Ocean Fest, an annual fundraiser sponsored by North Shore Ocean Education Coalition, will be heldSaturday, June 3, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the West Lawn at Turtle Bay Resort. The theme of Ocean Fest for 2017 is “Malama Honua” echoing the theme of the world-wide voyage of the Hokulea. Ocean Fest is featuring guided hikes, water activities, over 40 educational booths, silent auction, raffles, food, ocean-inspired crafts, live music and hula entertainment.Honu by the Sea,

a theatrical production created for children is returning to share their musical magic! The event honors “World Oceans Day,” celebrated annually on June 8 since 2002 to promote ocean education worldwide.

“This celebration of the ocean and sustainability will be “Plastic FREE” this year! We hope to set a new standard not only for Ocean Fest, but also to help our children learn how they can live more sustainably without one-use plastics!” said Dotty Kelly Paddock, coordinator of the North Shore Ocean Fest. Ocean Fest is welcoming a new partner to the event, the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. The Foundation is providing the leadership for this important lesson on Plastic-Free sustainability!

Ocean Fest will again feature K-12 student art and poetry celebrating the ocean. Winning entries for 2017 will be displayed at the North Shore Ocean Fest and 1-5th place winners will be recognized at a special awards ceremony,

Don’t miss Ocean Fest’s exciting new feature this year… Sunset on the West Lawn with a Disney movie! Everyone is invited to come with blankets, beach chairs for the movie! There will be more great food, music and guest speakers too.

The mission of Ocean Fest is to increase awareness and knowledge about the ocean, marine life, and ecosystems in order to protect, restore, and manage the use of ocean resources and inspire local and global conservation. The Coalition partners include: The National Humpback Whale Marine Sanctuary, The Marine Mammal Alliance, Malama Pupukea-Waimea, Dolphin Quest, Kokua Hawaii Foundation, Turtle Bay Resort and Hui O Hauula.

Proceeds from Ocean Fest support year-round ocean education activities for children and youth. All donations to the North Shore Ocean Fest are tax deductible. Checks should be made payable to Hui O Hauula, a 501c3 non-profit, and mailed to NSOF, PO Box 264, Hauula HI, 96717.100% of donations go for educational activities.
