Tampa Bay Watch is recruiting volunteers to harvest salt marsh at Port Manatee on Monday, May 11 from 9am – noon.
Volunteers are needed to harvest plugs of salt marsh from Port Manatee which will be used in our planting event on Saturday, May 16 at Rock Ponds. Salt marsh planting projects are an environmental tool for restoring lost coastal habitat. Click here to read more on salt marsh restoration.
Information for registered volunteers:
- The address of Port Manatee is 14495 Harlee Rd, Port Manatee, 34221-9620. Detailed directions will be emailed to registered volunteers before the event.
- This is a very muddy project, you will get dirty! You’ll need to wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty.
- Remember to wear shoes that tie to your feet. Do not wear flip flops or crocs.
- Bring a towel to dry off and a plastic bag to put your wet shoes in when finished.
- Please bring a water bottle to fill up and carry with you. There will be coolers full of water, but they will be scattered throughout the site.
- Wear a hat, sunscreen, bug spray and bring garden gloves.
