Have you thought about those little “micro-beads” in your facial cleansers? What exactly are they? Well, they are little beads of plastic that are making a big impact on our oceans and lakes.
According to 5 Gyres, “Analyzing facial cleanser products, we estimate that a single product can contain over 300,000 of these beads! In samples taken from our expedition to The Great Lakes in 2012 we found these beads, in some cases numbering more than 600,000 per square kilometer!”
What can you do to help stop the use of these plastics? Not buying them is the quick answer. For others ways to help, visit the 5 Gyres campaign here.
